Dear Non-Pregnant Person:
Dear Non-Pregnant Person,
I hope you find these guidelines helpful in your interactions with pregnant women as failing to follow them may result in serious physical harm. If you are thinking, surely she doesn't mean me- then you should probably read this twice.
1) The appropriate response to a couple telling you they are having a baby is "Congratulations!" with enthusiasm. Any other response is rude.
2) Through the wonders of science, we now know that babies are made ONLY by the mother and father- not grandparents. Unless the baby is in your uterus or you are the man that helped put it there, you may not ever use the phrase "my baby".
3) On the same note, unless you made the baby as defined in #2, the pregnancy, birth and raising of the child are not about you. You do not have input. No one wants to hear your opinion unless they ask for it.
4) The body of a pregnant women should be treated the same as any other body. You would not randomly touch someone's stomach if they were not pregnant, nor would you inquire into the condition of their uterus, cervix or how they plan to use their breasts. Pregnancy does not remove all traces of privacy from a woman.
5) Likewise, no women wants to hear comments on her weight- ever. A pregnant woman does not find it flattering that you think she is about is pop, must be having twins, looks swollen or has gained weight in her face. Telling her she looks too small only makes her worry that she is somehow starving her baby. Making such comments invite her to critique your physical appearance and you may not act offended. The only acceptable comment on appearance is "You look fabulous!".
6) By the time we are 20-30 years old, most of us have picked up on the fact that the summer is hot. We are hot every summer when we are not pregnant. We don't need you to point out that we will be miserably hot before the baby comes.
7) There is a reason that tickets to L&D are not yet sold on Ticketmaster. Childbirth is actually not a public event. It may sound crazy, but some women really do not relish the idea of their mother, MIL or a host of other family members seeing their bare butt and genitals. Also, some people simply feel like the birth of their child is a private and emotional moment to be shared only by the parents.
8) Like everything else in life, unless you receive an invitation, you are NOT invited. This includes doctor appointments, ultrasounds, labor and delivery. You do not decide if you will be there for the birth or if you will move in with the new parents to "help out". If your assistance is desired, rest assured that you will be asked for it.
9) If you are asked to help after the birth, this means you should clean up the house, help with cooking meals, and generally stay out of the way. Holding the baby more than the parents, interfering with breastfeeding and sleeping schedules and making a woman who is still leaking fluid from multiple locations lift a finger in housework is not helping.
10) The only people entitled to time with the baby are the parents. Whether they choose to have you at the hospital for the birth or ask for you to wait three weeks to visit, appreciate that you are being given the privilege of seeing their child. Complaining or showing disappointment only encourages the parents to include you less.

38 weeks.....
I've set up camp inside the house and am refusing to leave it until either Ella decides its time to make her grand entrance into this world or the temp drops below 90. I've been running around here in my night gown because its loose, cool and doesn't irritate my itching. If you happen to stop by, don't be surprised to see me in my beautiful MuMu!!

He's the Best!!

I have to say that the last nine months has been pretty easy. I've had my husband by my side the whole time and I couldn't ask for any better. I've heard and read stories about husbands that are oblivious to the fact that their wives are pregnant. He has pampered me and spoiled me a little bit and I want to thank him.
Thank you for all the late night ice cream trips (I'm going to miss Fritzes).
Thank you for enduring the realllllllly slooooooow talkkkkkker at the childbirth class (giggles and all).
Thank you for putting up with my hormonal days (yes, I really am crying at a car commercial).
Thank you for getting my iron, fish, prenatal, tums, sudafed pills on a daily basis.
Thank you for getting up at 4am to get me an ice pack for my itchy belly.
Thank you for rubbing my feet almost every night, even though I know how much you hate that yucky lotion feeling on your hands.
Thank you for putting up with my needing to be in bed by 10pm, even on Weekends.
Thank you for gaining the necessary husband pregnancy weight along with me, I don't feel so alone in the thought of losing all this weight in a few weeks.
Thank you for understanding when my feet are swollen beyond recognition and you run into the store for me.
Thank you for always scoping out the parking lots to make sure there are not better parking spots than the one you are about to park in. (even though I know you hate doing this)
I'm sure there are plenty more thank you's in the future, this is just a start.
I love you!!
Your swollen, tired, hormonal wife!

What is wrong with people?
patient: " Oh, your pregnant."
Me: " yes, I 'm due in about 4 weeks."
Patient: " I didn't realize, you are usually sitting down. I thought your face was just chubby, you know, because bigger girls have chubby faces."
Me: " Well, Thanks."
I couldn't believe that somebody just said that to me. Whether I was pregnant or not, who says something like to another person? It's amazing that some people don't think before they open their mouths.
People think that just because I'm pregnant it gives them the right to say things about how big I am. It's one thing for my husband or close friends to say something, I know they are joking. But for people that either don't know me or don't know me very well to say things, it just makes me so mad. Don't call me fatty, ask me if I'm having twins, or call me any of the other names you might think is okay, ITS NOT OKAY!!!!!!!

Question and answer
answer: My husband on his thought process to help locate my brothers Septic Tank.
Question: Who no longer fits into the seats at Taco Bell and feels like a big fat cow?
answer: Paula the pregnant one. Nothing could make you feel fatter than going into Taco Bell only to discover that you no longer fit into the seats without your stomach being pushed back into itself.....I had to sit in the handicap spot, where the seat is unattached and actually pulls out. YIKES!!!

Week by Week Belly shots
Getting ready!!
We only have 7 weeks left.....maybe she will be early. I've started packing my bag just in case, I don't want to have to send Mike back home to pack things...(scary thought)!!
Last night we picked up a white bookshelf and got that put together. I have to still put up a closet organizer.

Taking Responsibility for your own action....I don't think so!!!
What has happened to our society that every one has to blame someone else for their actions? Lets start suing our parents for our genes, " Sorry Mom and Dad, I'm suing you because its all your fault that you passed these faulty genes on to me." I get so tired of people blaming everyone else for their problems.

Painting is done....Landscaping is not....
BEFORE: UGLY GREEN

AFTER: PRETTY TAN AND RED
Landscaping is still not finished in front, although most of the bricks are in place, its just a matter of now getting dirt, rock, plastic and plants. Hopefully it will be done by this weekend.
I'm gettin bigger and bigger every day: Here I am at 30 weeks.
I'ts amazing to me that your body can stretch the way it does, so far I've been lucky and I haven't gotten one stretch mark (Knock on Wood). Ella is due in 8 weeks and I'm just about ready to be done with being pregnant. My feet are "SWOLLEN" ( some of you get this) and my belly is starting to get in the way of simple everyday things: Shaving my legs has become a circus act. Putting lotion on my feet and legs, almost impossible. Getting out of bed......rolling over in bed......

I've Totally lost It!!!
Mike is in the process of trying to finishing the landscaping in the front and I've got my hands full inside. As I type, a Man is on a very large extention ladder prepping my walls for the paint that is going to be applied Thursday and Friday. My living room and loft have to be completely emptied out and then everything put back before the party Saturday.
FYI: If you are coming over on Friday night, I may put you to work :)
On top of that, I've got to decorate, get the yard ready, get the food ready and finish the laundry. Am I crazy, ABSOLUTLY!!!
(ps. my ankles are swollen and I'm not getting any sleep, I'm ready to have this baby)

For those of us who can't read.....
It's really to listen and type the letters...uhm isn't that kinda of like the braille machine at the ATM?
(I'm not being mean, just wondering outloud)

Lobsters, Nurserys and Goofy

This past Saturday was the monthly card game with Mikes side of the family, it also happened to be his Step-Moms and Brothers birthday. We got a call on Friday from his sister asking us if we wanted 11 whole lobsters (they were left overs from a company party her husband had), of course we took them. So Saturday was a food fest, ribeyes, chicken breasts, ribs and of course the lobsters:

Just a goofy pic of my husband on Cinco de MikeO:

Baby Ella
Here are a couple of the pictures:

Saturday, April 29, 2006

So its a rainy day here in St. Louis and I'm thinking of all the things that we could do today. Of course, my husband would rather spend the day playing his new "Teaching Guitar". I, of course, have a much different view of how today could be spent.
* The garage needs to be cleaned out. I refuse to come home with a new baby and be able to park in the garage.
* Finish painting the Baby Ella's Room.....
* Go check out the St. Charles Home and Garden show
* Work on cleaning up the basement
* Pack up all the old clothes in this house and take them to Goodwill
* Laundry
None of these really sound any good and we will probably spend the day on the couch watching stupid Saturday Afternoon movies.
A couple of months ago, Mike and I bought a dopplar to hear the baby's heartbeat. We could never hear it until this morning. We decieded to try it out and sure enough, there it was. It was really neat to be able to hear that. She has been moving around like crazy the last week (I'm thinking future Olmpyic Gymnast Perhaps?).
Sigma helping me try out my new sling for Ella, he actually liked it!!
